Meg Shaw

Biography

B. 1981, Toronto, Canada

Meg Shaw is an artist, working in Vancouver, Canada, the traditional, ancestral and unceded territory of the Coast Salish peoples–Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations.  She focuses on  painting, drawing and sculpture. Her practice is based on the figure and narrative, combining bold colour, the mythological, the mundane,  and alien figures, to explore the psychological and unsaid aspects of human vulnerability and relationships.

Meg works primarily in ink, watercolour, casein and oil.

She spent 15 years working in video games and animation as a concept artist, art director and painter, before focusing full time on her personal practice in 2020.

She graduated from the University of Waterloo in 2003 with an Hon. BA in Studio Art, and the Traditional Animation program at Capilano University in 2007.
